'Binotto and Aston Martin in talks over key technical role'

Mattia Binotto left as team boss of Ferrari in November 2022. This was followed by a period of gardening leave, but the Italian has been allowed to go back to work somewhere for about six months. He has not signed anywhere yet, but it looks more and more like he will revive his career at Aston Martin.
La Gazzetta dello Sport previously reported that Binotto was spotted at Aston Martin's motorhome during the weekend in Imola, where he spoke at length with team owner Lawrence Stroll. According to Motorsport-Total.com , this would possibly involve a role as Chief Technical Officer (CTO), a position that is currently unmanned at Aston Martin following the departure of Andrew Green early last year.
In that case, Binotto - who by nature is more of a technical director than a team boss - will head the technical department at the British team. That would mean that technical director Dan Fallows will then report to Binotto, who in turn will become more responsible for setting up technical structures. Day-to-day management would remain in the hands of Fallows and team boss Krack, while the 54-year-old Italian will oversee and shape the bigger picture with CEO Martin Whitmarsh.
With the new regulations in 2026, Binotto's knowledge and expertise would be very welcome for Aston Martin, even if Fallows remains primarily responsible for building the car. At the very least, Binotto serves as a sparring partner.
Alpine and Audi
Binotto has also been linked to Alpine and Audi over the past year. At the former team, he could have got the job as team boss, but he reportedly thanked for that role. Currently, Bruno Famin is still at the helm of the French factory team on an interim basis. At Audi, he would also be a candidate to take on a leadership role, but Aston Martin seems to have the better papers at the moment.
