It is still unclear which team Adrian Newey will continue his career with when he steps down from Red Bull Racing in early '25. Although a German medium reported last week that Ferrari was no longer interested in the master designer, the Italian team still seems to be the main candidate to bring him in. This may have implications for Ferrari's technical director, who is said to be interested in Aston Martin.

In fact, according to Motorsport.com, Enrico Cardile has already been approached by ambitious Aston Martin. The British team would see the Italian as one of its top priorities to strengthen the organisation. Indeed, Aston Martin acknowledges that Cardile has played a major role in Ferrari's development, where he heads the chassis and aerodynamics team.

Team owner Lawrence Stroll previously tried to entice Newey into a move to Aston Martin, but the latter proved - despite a princely reward - to have no interest in Fernando Alonso's team. On that, Aston Martin reportedly passed on to Cardile.

'Cardile doesn't want to play second fiddle to Ferrari'

The British team thinks it has a good chance of signing the Italian. In fact, Aston Martin assumes that Cardile has no desire to surrender some of his powers later on, if Newey does indeed come to Ferrari. Incidentally, the question is whether 65-year-old Newey has any desire to become Ferrari's technical director. It is more likely that - should Newey opt for the Italians - he will work as a kind of consultant.
