Verstappen remained calm after Monaco result: 'That gives you less emotion'
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
Max Verstappen finished sixth in Monaco. This is one of his lowest finishing positions in years. Yet the three-time world champion was calm after the Grand Prix and showed little emotion. This is something that has come with age, the Dutchman told me.
Max Verstappen's Formula 1 career is one with highs and lows. Besides his great success in recent years, the Dutchman has also experienced many breakdowns. His reaction to his sixth-place finish in Monaco was calm and calculated.
Verstappen has fewer emotions
To various media, including GPblog, Verstappen explained after the Monaco race how he experienced the weekend. "I mean, there's not a lot of emotion attached to it. It's one of them that you just go through. But I think it's more important, it's not about if I enjoy it or not, it's about just learning what is the problem, understanding the problem and try to fix it."
The three-time world champion was then asked whether the Max of four or five years ago would have reacted more frustrated to a weekend like Monaco. "But four or five years ago we didn't have a championship-winning car, so...", Verstappen responded.
Whether the reason he reacted so calmly in Monaco was because of the speed and capabilities his car has now, the Dutchman did not know. "Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I've been in and out for quite a long time, so probably also that just gives you a bit less emotions."
