Lando Norris: From a doubter to becoming a confident GP winner
- Ludo van Denderen
Lando Norris is no longer the Lando Norris of a year ago. He has grown as a driver, become more consistent and what's more, the Briton can call himself a Grand Prix winner since Miami. The 24-year-old has also grown mentally: from a doubter to a determined driver, who has a clear goal in his life: to become a Formula One world champion.
In recent years, Norris has been particularly open about the mental struggles he sometimes had. Watching him perform and hearing him talk these days, one realises that the McLaren driver's outlook on life is quite different these days. "I think I've got to a point where I'm always accepting help from people and advice," Norris says of his metamorphosis.
"And I speak to whoever it will be, whether it's Zak [Brown], or my dad, or my mom, or family, or friends, whoever it is. I'm always very happy to take advice from them and listen to what people say, but I can also do things my own way, and I like to do things my own way. I feel like I'm at a point where I can deal with the good times and I can deal with the bad times."
Norris is comfortable in his own skin
Norris realises that every individual deals with the ups and downs differently. About himself now, the Briton says: "I feel like I'm in a much better place than I was a few years ago. I’ve just matured and got the experience of that I can deal with myself and be happy, celebrate it, but then return back to normality and focus on the next one [Grand Prix]."
