This weekend, the Canadian Grand Prix is on the programme in Formula 1. It is a very special place for (currently) Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton to return. Hamilton has not won a race for two years, but 17 years ago he recorded his very first, and quite a few more victories followed.

At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Englishman from Stevenage in his McLaren stayed ahead of Nick Heidfeld in his BMW Sauber, and managed to take his first victory. Almost 17 years on, Hamilton has still not forgotten this victory. Despite 102 Grands Prix wins coming after it.

Hamilton reflects on first victory

"I am looking forward to being back in Montreal. Looking back at my first win. 22 years old, my first year in F1 and only my sixth race. It really was a dream come true. I got so much support that weekend and I've felt that support ever since. Thank you to everyone, especially those who were there from the start," Hamilton said on Instagram.

"Feels like yesterday, champion," McLaren responded below the seven-time world champion's post.
