Formula 1 has 24 races on its calendar this year. CEO of Liberty Media Greg Maffei, the owner of Formula 1, has said he is happy with this. Still, the company is open to adding other venues.

The limit has been reached

Formula 1 was mainly a European sport, and as a result, the sport has many races in Europe, but in recent years many races have been added outside the continent. For example, three of the 24 races will take place in the United States this season. Greg Maffei, CEO of Liberty Media, says in the F1 podcast: Beyond the Grid that he is happy with this number of races.

Still, Maffei is keeping the door ajar for other venues. "We certainly tried to do one in Africa," Maffei said in the podcast. "[We] have not been successful. It would be great to put one there."

Other potential locations could be found in Asia. "There is a lot of demand in other places, including Southeast Asia, a big push by South Korea, a big push by Thailand," Maffei added. Whether there will also be a race is not clear, but Maffei has already thought about how he will not exceed the limit of 24 races.

"You could see rotation, you could see there are places that are more or less likely to stay on the calendar." Among the races now at risk are Zandvoort, Belgium, Monaco, Las Vegas, China, Emilia-Romagna, Mexico and Italy. The contracts of these circuits all expire in 2025.
