While the Canadian Grand Prix is scheduled this weekend, the FIA has launched something very important for Formula 1. As we know, the top class of motorsport will enter a new era in 2026 with new regulations. Quite a few things are going to change, but what? GPblog lists them all.

F1 cars more compact and lighter

The car will be 20 centimetres shorter and 10 centimetres narrower from 2026. Many fans were already asking for more compact cars, and so they got their way. The car will also be as much as thirty kilos lighter. The most notable of the FIA's new regulations is the abolition of the DRS. In addition, a few other big changes can be found.

Much more battery power

Power units will be a lot more efficient from 2026, the FIA say. The new cars will have as much as 300% (!) more battery power. There will also be a lot more overtaking opportunities. There will be a Manual Override Mode, allowing more electric power to be deployed on the car in front.

Safety

Formula 1 cars will run on 100% renewable fuel from 2026. Roll hoop loads have been increased from 16G to 20G in line with other single seater formulas and test loads increased from 141kN to 167kN. The structures on the car will become even sturdier. Lights will become more visible as well.
