The new technical regulations for the Formula 1 season were released by the FIA on Thursday afternoon. The motorsport federation also released several pictures of the 2026 car. All changes to the exterior of the car can be found (including explanations) in this article from GPblog.

In terms of aerodynamics, there will be several options for drivers. "The system with movable front and rear wings allows for higher cornering speeds in the standard Z-Mode. On straights, drivers can switch to X-Mode," the FIA writes. The front wings of Formula 1 cars will be ten centimetres narrower.

Not only in terms of aerodynamics, the FIA has made adjustments, but also in terms of safety. Especially on the sides, the cars are getting stronger. Despite the side bolides being better able to withstand crashes, the car will not become heavier. The GPS antenna on the Formula 1 car is going to be repositioned to make it extra safe.

A goal that is perhaps as high on the FIA's agenda as safety is sustainability. From 2026, cars will run entirely on renewable fuel. The FIA's new regulations are in line with its goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.
