Blunder by Ferrari with wrong tyres for Leclerc

Old-fashioned blunder by Ferrari: Leclerc out on the wrong tyres

7 June at 22:21

Ferrari started the second free practice for the Canadian Grand Prix disastrously. Charles Leclerc was sent out on the wrong tyres. As a result, Ferrari and Leclerc are now 'under investigation' by the stewards.

During the second free practice session, it soon emerged that Leclerc was being investigated by the stewards. The reason was remarkable: the use of tyres. Teams are stuck with a fixed set of tyres that can be used for each session. Leclerc's intermediate tyres were used before the track was declared wet.

The moment also caused confusion over the team radio. Leclerc was told to come to the pits. Leclerc thought there was an issue and wanted to know what it was. However, the race engineer did not want to report that to avoid bigger problems. However, Leclerc was assured that there was no major problem but that he had to come to the pits.
