Powerless Verstappen sees Red Bull struggle with problems
9 June at 06:30

Max Verstappen is not entirely happy with how things are going at Red Bull Racing. Although the Dutchman achieved the same time as George Russell, Verstappen also sees that things are constantly going wrong at Red Bull. Why that is, Verstappen does not know at the moment either.

It was a difficult weekend for Verstappen in Canada so far. Things already went wrong with the engine on Friday, but throughout the weekend Verstappen also struggled with the balance of his car. After problems in Imola and Monaco, things are now going wrong again in Canada. Verstappen balks that those problems keep coming back.

"That just shouldn't happen," Verstappen told Dutch media, including GPblog, in Canada about the team's problems. "We do keep a close eye on everything, but somehow you sometimes have a moment in the year where things just don't quite work out. Of course, all these little problems come up and we try to make sure that just doesn't happen again. Everyone knows that too, we always try to avoid that, but at the moment things are just not going well."

Why Red Bull continues to struggle with problems

Asked if those problems are more visible this year because of the connected competition, Verstappen said: "Yes, absolutely. Almost no people have changed (within the team), everyone is obviously just doing their best, but somehow then things just don't go well for a while."

"You always talk about that, you always try to improve and analyse things to see why they happen. One way or another, you just can't stop it at the moment."

Despite Red Bull Racing's lesser form, Verstappen still managed to qualify his car in second place. Verstappen drove the same time as Russell but set his time later in the session. As a result, Russell will start Sunday from pole position and Verstappen from second.
