Ocon furious after Alpine team order in Canada

With a ninth and tenth place finish, Alpine should be very happy, the atmosphere is negative again after the Canadian Grand Prix. A team order in the closing stages of the race made Esteban Ocon a very frustrated driver afterwards.

Alpine managed to finish with two drivers in the points for the first time in 2024. Before the Canadian Grand Prix, both drivers scored one point each. Ocon did so in China, and Pierre Gasly in Monaco. In Canada, both drivers scored points, but Ocon was not happy after the race.

Ocon and Alpine argue further

"I'm happy for the team to be able to score with both cars, but the order should be reverse. I got the instructions to let Pierre [Gasly] pass with one and a half laps ago, or two laps to go, to catch Daniel [Ricciardo] who was two and a half seconds in front and too fast for us. So the call made no sense," Ocon disappointedly stated to Sky Sports.

"But I've done my part of the job, which is being a team player. I've always respected the instructions that have been given. It's always been the case and I've never done anything different in my career. But I've done my part of the job, but not the team today. And it is very sad." Asked if Ocon thinks Alpine has now disadvantaged him because he is leaving anyway, Ocon stated: "I give them the benefit of the doubt."

Ocon's comments are notable after the moment between Ocon and Gasly in Monaco. At the time, Ocon was accused of being a bad teammate who does not stick to agreements. After the GP, it became clear that Ocon will also leave the team at the end of 2024 and thus has to look for a new seat for 2025.
