Piastri on incident with Russell in closing stages of GP Canada

During the closing stages of the Canadian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri was battling with George Russell. Here, things almost went wrong between the two, when the latter tried to overtake the Australian in the final chicane. Despite this, Piastri is not angry, he told after the race.

During the final safety car, both Russell and Hamilton made pit stops. This put Piastri on P3, but as he was driving on older tyres, he had to battle hard with both Mercedes drivers. In the end, the McLaren driver was overtaken by both men, finishing on P5.

In the closing stages, Piastri could have used a DRS from teammate Lando Norris. He did not get this one. The Australian himself says: "I mean, that's what I wanted. But I'm not sure it would have been the best call as a team. I think it would have just meant that the Mercedes were closer to Lando once they got past me. At the end of the race they were over a second faster a lap. So, at that point of the race, it would have been helpful. But I'm not sure it would have been the right decision anyway."

Piastri does not assign blame after incident with Russell

Towards the end of the Grand Prix, a minor incident followed between Piastri and Russell. The former himself does not know if anyone was at fault and who was at fault: "I mean, I need to see it a bit more. I think it's an incredibly tough corner to go too wide in. And yes, you need to be very brave to go around the outside. In the end, he got past anyway, so I don't think it really changed the result. But, hopefully, it was entertaining."
