The 2024 Canadian Grand Prix was a spectacular rain race. In addition, Max Verstappen managed to clinch victory despite it looking like the Red Bull did not have the fastest car. Verstappen broke Schumacher's record in Canada
Grand Prix winner Max Verstappen broke an old record held by Michael Schumacher in Canada. Indeed, the Dutchman has won three or more times on the same circuit at eight different tracks. Verstappen has already won three times or more at Zandvoort, Mexico City, Spa, Austin, Yas Marina, Suzuka, Imola and Montreal. Schumacher did so at seven different circuits.
While not a record, it is noteworthy. In fact, it has been more than 700 days since Verstappen lost two races in a row. The last time was in 2022. He did not win the British Grand Prix then, nor in Austria.
McLaren won points in Canada for the first time since 2014. The English team went home with a whopping 28 points. Another fun fact is that Verstappen has won as many races as Lewis Hamilton since Spain 2016. This is 60 wins no less.
A nice bonus for the organisers is that the Canadian Grand Prix was a lot better watched by Americans than in previous years, according to ESPN. In fact, it was the best-watched Canadian Grand Prix from an American perspective. Some 1.76 million people watched at its peak.
