Video: Leading driver Kubica sends trailing BMW off track at Le Mans
- Ludo van Denderen
For Alpine, the 24 Hours of Le Mans was over early; and also, BMW had a terrible race. After Robin Frijns put the team's first car into the wall (although he was able to continue after a break of almost half an hour), the second BMW also crashed. That was due to frontrunner Robert Kubica in the AF Corse.
Kubica overtook Dries Vanthoor, but cut in a little too quickly. In doing so, the former F1 driver hit the Belgian, who went hard off the track. Vanthoor was taken to the medical centre supported by marshals for a check, while his BMW had become quite a bit shorter thanks it hitting the wall hard. To clear the debris, the safety car entered the track and the entire field bunched up.
