F1 Today | Steiner expects Sargeant out, and Norris excited for Spain

Sargeant out of Williams sooner than expected? 

With Vowles making it clear he wants Carlos Sainz and the FIA changing their rule allowing 17-year-olds to earn a super licence at their discretion, Guenther Steiner believes that Logan Sargeant should be out of the cockpit by the summer break if his performances don't improve. 

Sargeant has scored one point in his F1 career, getting 10th at the US Grand Prix after both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified. So far this year, Sargeant has failed to finish higher than 15th and failed to finish two races. 

Earlier this season, it was revealed that an application had been made by the team to grant 17-year-old F2 driver Kimi Antonelli a superlicense. Last week, the FIA also changed the rules regarding the license, adding that although the rules state you must be 18 to obtain one, special dispensation can be made for certain drivers to receive one at 17.

Norris excited for Spanish Grand Prix

After seeing five cars fighting for the lead at the Canadian Grand Prix, Lando Norris is excited at the prospect for the Spanish Grand Prix. Part of the reason for Norris' excitement is how his McLaren performs at every track now, but also the number of cars that could be fighting for the win. 

Norris was full of praise for his rivals after his P2 finish in Canada, in particular for Mercedes. The Silver Arrows have struggled to fight at the front since 2022, but they took a massive step towards the front in Canada with George Russell starting Sunday's race on pole but finishing third. 

Former F1 driver 'finished' with Perez

Since Sergio Perez signed his new Red Bull contract, he has failed to finish a Grand Prix. In Monaco, he only qualified 16th and was then involved in the massive crash that ended both his and the two Haas cars' races after the first corner. In Canada, he again qualified 16th and crashed on Lap 51 of the race. Controversially, he continued around the track and retired in the pit lane. 

This has brought criticism for the Mexican from a former Dutch driver, who believes Red Bull should "get rid of the guy". 

One particularly harsh comment by Verschuur was regarding the cost of the damages Perez has caused, to which Verschuur said he could reduce the cost "by not driving!" 

Alonso gives retirement advice to Verstappen

Max Verstappen has stated multiple times he won't race in Formula 1 until he is 40 like fellow world champions Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. However the latter has given some advice to the Dutchman. 

Alonso made his debut in the sport in 2001 and drove for Minardi, Renault, McLaren, Ferrari, Alpine and currently drives for Aston Martin. He retired from the sport at the end of the 2019 season, but returned to F1 with Alpine in 2021. 

He believes that Verstappen - who has won three world drivers titles - would do a similar thing, saying "I found, even when I decided to stop, I couldn’t."
