Lando Norris lost a potential Grand Prix victory in Canada after Max Verstappen's Red Bull overtook him under the safety car. The Dutchman therefore prevailed over Norris last time out. The Brit secured his first Grand Prix victory in a very similar manner at Miami earlier in the season. In response to this strategy error, Norris says that McLaren will 'make better decisions' after they lost their chance to fight for another race win this season.

On Thursday in Barcelona, Norris spoke about his second-place finish at the Canadian Grand Prix. The 18-time podium sitter explained how McLaren has learned from their mistakes in Montreal

McLaren review situation in Canada

"We reviewed it a lot, the team reviewed it, and I reviewed it. We listened to radios, all those kinds of things. There was nothing like, oh we've clearly messed up, we've done something wrong. It was still a tricky decision. We simply should have been a little bit more prepared and I should have simply had the safety car box call," explained the Brit. "At the same time, from my side, I don't know how much rain there's going to be, I'm getting told there's rain, so I'm judging a lot of my feelings and decisions of what the team are telling me. So it's a little bit from their side, a little bit from my side in provoking or giving more feedback, that kind of thing."

How will McLaren improve?

The Papaya team identified their mistakes and will look to make different decisions going forward. "It's not big changes," continued Norris. "It's not like you have to change anything drastically, it's just one more question or it's just one more little decision that we've got to make. It's very small things but they just have very big consequences like we saw. So really I'm happy with everyone, I'm happy with the team and their work ethic and how they're trying to improve in all these areas. I'm confident we'll just go and do another weekend and we'll make better decisions, simple as that."

Lando Norris will be hoping to fight for victory once again this weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix, a place where Red Bull is expected to be fastest.
