Alpine team boss fuels rumours about search for engine partner
- Jeroen Immink
Alpine team boss Bruno Famin has addressed rumours about Alpine's engine in the coming seasons. The French racing stable will want to move away from Renault as engine supplier and stories are circulating that the first talks with Mercedes, will already have taken place. At the press conference in Barcelona, Famin responded.
Asked if Alpine is looking for a new supplier, Famin responded as follows: "First, I am not optimistic. And I'm just saying we are on track. We knew we are going to have some problems, which is just normal with this kind of very complex project. About the rumours, we just don't comment on the rumours. We owe a lot of respect for everybody in Viri working on that project. The worst thing would be to comment on the rumours," the Frenchman said.
It will be a long road for Alpine
Alpine is experiencing a dramatic season so far in 2024. With just five points in the first nine races, the French constructor is 8th in the standings. Meanwhile, it has been announced that Esteban Ocon will leave the team. Pierre Gasly will also walk out of his contract after this season and has been linked to a departure.
