Aron grabs pole position for F2 race in Spain

Aron takes pole position in Spain, Bearman disappoints with P15

21 June at 15:37

Paul Aron set the fastest time in F2 qualifying in Spain. The Eston was the surprising number one and had a small gap to numbers two and three Jak Crawford and Franco Colapinto. Oliver Bearman disappointed with a fifteenth place, while Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished fifth.

Early in the session, things went wrong for Taylord Barnard. When a few drivers have set times, Barnard ended his session in the wall. Paul Aron held the fastest time at that point, but when the red flag was waved half the field had not yet been out.

Who takes pole position in Spain?

After Barnard's car is removed from the gravel pit, all drivers can go outside for a first serious attempt on the soft tyre. In this, Isack Hadjar is the man making the most impression. The Frenchman won the last two races in F2 and is back in it again in Spain. Andrea Kimi Antonelli is also living up to his name with a second time in the first run. The Italian is considerably faster than his teammate Oliver Bearman. The Briton is more than a second short of his teammate, after impressing well for Haas in FP1.

With a few minutes left on the clock, the drivers dived onto the track for the second and final run in qualifying. In those final runs, the rankings went a long way. Paul Aron still grabbed pole position, 0.002s ahead of Jak Crawford. Franco Colapinto was third 0.006s off the fastest time. Andrea Kimi Antonelli qualified in fifth place, while his teammate Bearman disappointed with P15. Isack Hadjar also dropped out with a poor second run. He will start from P10 on Sunday.
