Vasseur says the Hamilton sabotage claim is 'completely irrational'
Fred Vasseur has supported Mercedes after several people in the paddock at the Spanish Grand Prix, including a Daily Mail journalist, received an anonymous message saying that Lewis Hamilton is being "sabotaged" by Mercedes with his 2025 move to Ferrari in mind.
However, this anonymous message accuses the German team of deliberately sabotaging the seven-time World Champion, with the sender claiming to be an employee of the team. Mercedes and Wolff have said the sender is not an employee of Mercedes and have contacted the police to investigate. Fred Vasseur, who will be Hamilton's team principal when he joins the Scuderia in 2025, had this to say during Friday's press conference. The boss of the Italian team has stood up for Wolff and supported Mercedes.
Vasseur completely discredits the message
"This is completely irrational and nobody in the paddock could do something like this," said the Ferrari team boss. "We are fighting for the championship and each weekend we are trying to score points more than the others, how you can imagine that we say, 'Lewis, we don't want to score points anymore with him.' This, for me, it's completely irrational and completely out of the scope of the person who is doing my business."
