22 June at 14:00

After three free practice sessions, it is time for the fastest laps of the weekend in Barcelona. After testing their final runs in FP3, teams will have to overcome the challenges of the Barcelona track to achieve their goals in qualifying. Can Max Verstappen return to winning ways and get pole position once again, or will someone else earn their first pole, like Leclerc did in Monaco and Russell did in Barcelona? You will be updated throughout the session with all the latest news.

Qualifying will begin at 15:00 (GMT) at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. During an hour-long session, Max Verstappen would definitely like to start from P1 once again in 2024, after the Dutchman missed out in Canada setting the same lap time as George Russell, but he did so later than the Briton. Together with Leclerc, these three drivers have earned a pole position so far in the current season.

Last year, Verstappen secured pole with a 1:12.272, and Carlos Sainz started alongside the Dutchman. Sainz himself finished second behind Lewis Hamilton in FP2, but Charles Leclerc has had some problems with Ferrari's upgrades early on Friday. Amid controversy, Mercedes are also hoping to continue fighting at the top after a strong result in Canada. Spain's only world champion, Fernando Alonso is also hoping for a strong result.

After a busy FP3, it could be anyone's game still in Barcelona. It will also be interesting to see whether some teams choose to go out with a more conservative setup, given that there a chance of rain on Sunday, while it will be a dry qualifying session.
