A driver's first opponent is his teammate. With exactly the same equipment, your teammate is the one you want to beat first. How do the duels between the drivers stand after qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix Here is the complete overview of all internal duels.

After ten qualifications in 2024, three drivers are still unbeaten. Max Verstappen, Alexander Albon and Valtteri Bottas have finished ahead of their teammate in every qualifying session so far in 2024. Consequently, the average difference on Saturday between the two teammates is the greatest among these three teams. But Stake have the biggest margin. Bottas is on average 0.449s faster than Guanyu Zhou on Saturday.

Yet the duel at Red Bull Racing is also glaring. For a top team, an average qualifying difference of 0.416s is simply too much. The contrast is stark with the duels at Ferrari and McLaren, where both drivers managed to stay within a tenth of each other on Saturday. Even at Mercedes, where Lewis Hamilton is clearly having a down year, the difference is less than a tenth and a half.
