The Spanish Grand Prix may reveal the true pace of the field for the rest of the F1 season. During qualifying, it was very close between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. In the end, the Dutchman finished with the second-fastest time, just 0.020 seconds behind his McLaren rival. What does the three-time world champion expect from the race?

The field is incredibly close together in 2024. At the last race in Canada, Verstappen managed to win the Grand Prix thanks to an advantage gained during a safety car. In addition, the Red Bull was relatively fast in Montreal. Verstappen kept Norris behind on pure pace towards the end of the race.

Verstappen does not know what to expect in Spain

In Spain, expectations were that Red Bull would be the fastest. Verstappen doesn't know their true pace, either. Verstappen is hoping for a good race. "We try to have a good race, see how competitive we are against the rest. I do expect it to be all very close, but that's exciting and a bit unknown for everyone," he said ahead of the Grand Prix.

The Dutchman is enjoying his time at the Circuit de Barcelona Cataluyna. "It's always great because we've got two Spanish drivers so the support they have here is fantastic. In general, it's just different kinds of fans that we have here. On a great track like we have here, it's great to see." Concluded Verstappen during the driver's parade. Ocon, on the other hand, is not fond of the fans in Spain. Especially after they booed him this morning.
