Hamilton happy with first podium of the year: 'Nearly there'
For the first time this season, Lewis Hamilton finished on the podium. After missing out at the Canadian Grand Prix, in Barcelona, the Briton could cross the finish line in third position. Hamilton reacted positively on the grid after the race.
"Like Lando, I got a really bad start and lost ground to Ferrari. It was a battle to get back to the podium. With a better start, we'd have been closer to the guys ahead. Soft was the plan from the start. Hard tyre was never an option," Hamilton said immediately after jumping out of his car at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Likely referring to his incident with Carlos Sainz, the seven-time world champion said: "All the overtakes were super close which is how it should be. We bumped wheels but it was fair. I left him space, it was on the limit."
Hamilton thanks Toto Wolff over the radio
After the rumours over the weekend about Mercedes allegedly sabotaging Hamilton and Wolff making the police getting involved in the matter, Hamilton was also positive over the radio. "Thanks Bono. Great job guys! Mega! What a great surprise to come here and get these points. We are making improvements. Let's keep pushing. We are nearly there!"
Wolff also once again appeared on a team radio, congratulating Hamilton: "Well done, great to watch." Unlike in Canada, Hamilton answered this time, saying: "Thanks Toto!"
