After the Spanish Grand Prix, it is clear: McLaren are currently Red Bull Racing's biggest challenger and are even faster at times. This is being fought out by Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, whose teammates are currently playing a less prominent role. While Verstappen is still the big favourite for the world drivers' title, the constructors' title does not seem a certainty for the Austrian Formula 1 team this year.

Will McLaren beat Red Bull in the 2024 F1 season?

In recent races, McLaren has come dangerously close to the reigning world champions. Ferrari are still second in the championship, but the zero score in the GP of Canada means Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz see McLaren approaching. Even at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the Italian team struggled.

Meanwhile, McLaren seems to be fast at every track, sometimes even faster than Red Bull. Norris, in particular, excels, although Verstappen has managed to stay narrowly ahead of him in most races so far. Oscar Piastri still lags a little behind his teammate, but that has been even more true of Sergio Perez lately. In the last four races, the Mexican managed to score only eight points in total.

So if Red Bull wants to defend their constructors' title, Perez will have to step up a gear. McLaren scored more than or about the same number of points as Red Bull in the last four races. Ferrari has also done well since the introduced updates, but McLaren seems to have an edge over the Scuderia at the moment. Does the Woking-based team have a serious chance of winning the constructors' title, or will Red Bull manage to regain its advantage with an upcoming update package?
