Carlos Sainz has a decision: 'To move to Audi (now Stake F1) or not?' is what the Spaniard of Ferrari is wondering. After waiting so long, nobody will be surprised if Sainz finally decides not to take up the German's offer. Should that be the case, Audi are said to have a Red Bull driver in mind: Liam Lawson, currently Visa Cash App RB and Red Bull Racing's reserve driver.

Lawson impressed last year by scoring points at the Italian Grand Prix as a replacement for the then injured Daniel Ricciardo. In total, the New Zealander has five Formula 1 starts to his name. But despite his good performance then, the New Zealander is still waiting for a real opportunity with a Red Bull team. It just might not be an opportunity in '25 either.

Audi depends on Red Bull

Andreas Seidl, the Sauber CEO, has Lawson on his radar, according to the Italian branch of Motorsport.com. But Audi cannot move on yet. Contractually, Red Bull must let Red Bull know in September whether there is a place for Lawson in '25. If not, only then can he look around at other options. Earlier, Helmut Marko announced on behalf of Red Bull that Lawson is free to sign elsewhere if there is no permanent appointment at the Red Bull teams for Lawson next year.
