Pierre Gasly extends contract at Alpine and will drive for the team in 2025
- Estéban den Toom
Pierre Gasly is extending his contract at Alpine for the 2025 season. Esteban Ocon will leave the team at the end of the season, but Gasly will stay. Earlier rumours indicated that Sainz might become his new teammate.
Alpine confirmed the contract news on Thursday morning ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend. The team confirmed that Gasly will stay at the team in 2025 and beyond. This means he will remain at Alpine when the new rules and regulations are introduced in 2026.

We’re delighted to announce Pierre will be staying with us as he puts pen to paper on a new multi-year deal
Just last week, Alpine confirmed the return of Flavio Briatore. Gasly's teammate has not been confirmed for 2025 yet, but it won't be his current teammate Esteban Ocon. Alpine currently sit seventh in the World Championship standings after a somewhat disappointing start to the season.
When Ocon got into Q2 in Japan, for example, a jubilant French driver could be heard over the team radio. On the one hand, it is understandable in a season where everything has been disappointing so far, but at the same time, it is sad that a factory team with sky-high ambitions and a large budget were happy with this. But strides have been made recently. They scored just two points after eight race weekends but have scored six points from the last two Grands Prix.
Who will be Gasly's teammate?
Sainz has been linked to the seat. He will leave Ferrari at the end of this season to make room for Lewis Hamilton. He will partner with Charles Leclerc next season at the Italian team. If Alpine are interested in Sainz, then they face strong competition from Williams and Audi. Jack Doohan has also been named as a candidate for the seat, which is only logical due to his ties to the team.
