Dennis Hauger has secured pole position for the feature race in Formula 2. The Norwegian from MP Motorsport set the fastest time in the second run which nobody managed to match. Isack Hadjar was unfortunate with an engine failing. Kimi Antonelli will start from P16. Oliver Bearman will start from the front row in the sprint race after finishing 9th. There is a reverse grid for the sprint.

You can benefit a lot from a slipstream around the Red Bull Ring, so it was no surprise that most drivers came out immediately and simultaneously for their first run.

Bad luck again for Hadjar in Austria

Isack Hadjar was fastest in that first run. The Frenchman from the Red Bull Junior Team was two tenths faster than anything and everything, but soon the laughter was gone from him. The Campos driver's engine gave out and caused a huge cloud of smoke. With 20 minutes left on the clock, Hadjar was unlikely to remain at the top of the timesheet.

Behind Hadjar were Paul Aron, Dennis Hauger and Gabriel Bartoleto. The by now familiar names this year in Formula 2, while Prema's men were still struggling at the front in the first run. After the first run, Oliver Bearman was tenth, Andrea Kimi Antonelli was in P13.

For the second run, everyone went straight out again, while Hadjar had already climbed out of his car. Logically, the Frenchman's engine was beyond repair for the second run in the same qualifying session.

Hadjar's time did not stay in the second run. Dennis Hauger, the first man to enter the track was already three tenths faster. That time then proved to be unbeatable for anyone. Joshua Durksen still came closest and surprised with a P2. Gabriel Bortoleto came to P3.
