With internal conflict, Daniel Ricciardo is still waiting for a decision whether he could continue at VCARB. Christian Horner would like to keep the driver as the pair has a good relationship, but the team's advisor, Dr. Helmut Marko, has doubled down on replacing the Australian. With all that going on in the background, Ricciardo reacted to his performance on Friday at the Red Bull Ring, the team report.

After Daniel Ricciardo has declared this week that VCARB is the only option for him, and Helmut Marko confirmed that he would rather have Liam Lawson at Red Bull's junior team, the Australian finished in P16 in sprint qualifying. Moreover, he was once again outqualified by Yuki Tsunoda.

"It’s a short lap here, so it’s always going to be tricky. We changed quite a lot from FP1, and we’re still trying to learn about the package, but obviously, it’s frustrating when you miss out by a small bit," Ricciardo commented on his performance. The 34-year-old driver just finished 0.024 seconds behind Tsunoda, and that meant he got eliminated already after the first session.

"The second lap of the Sprint-Quali was definitely better than the first one, but we still need to finetune some things. I do think we made the right changes, but maybe we need to balance it better. We’ll try to use the Sprint to understand the car always more, so I’m staying optimistic," the Australian concluded.
