The Red Bull Racing team will no doubt have mixed feelings about Friday at the circuit in Austria. The first day of this race weekend was mainly dominated by sprint qualifying. Max Verstappen put his car on pole, while teammate Perez got no further than P7. Team boss Christian Horner reacts to his drivers' performance in a press release.

The Brit starts his statement with high praise for Verstappen. "It was a positive day for us today and we saw three great laps put in from Max." Still, Horner is not counting himself rich for now. "Overall, it was a great showing from Max but it’s getting close; McLaren were looking strong and Mercedes were edging closer too, so we are looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings."

Encouraging words for Perez

The other Red Bull driver was stranded on P7, but Horner remained positive about Perez's chances in the sprint race. "Unfortunately, it was a disappointing run for Checo, especially after getting boxed in by Esteban [Ocon], as there was no chance for him to get a representative lap. Going into SQ3 we thought he would be top five, which is a shame. However, this track is good for overtaking with a few good long straights. It’s going to be very hot tomorrow so that should throw up some challenges for all the cars on the grid," concluded the Austrian racing stable's leader.
