Verstappen delivers despite turmoil at Red Bull: 'The more whining, the harder Max drives'
- Nicole Mulder
During the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, unrest seemed to return to Red Bull Racing. The disagreement between Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen flared up again and although Max Verstappen finds this turmoil very annoying, Jos says it only makes his son drive harder.
Verstappen not distracted by Red Bull turmoil
Jos Verstappen was due to step into a Red Bull F1 car, the RB8, in Spielberg on Sunday during the Legend Parade. The former Formula One driver put a line through that himself, when it was brought to his attention that Horner had allegedly gone out of his way to prevent Verstappen sr. from getting into action. The Red Bull team boss and CEO was even said to have told Jos to 'just watch out if that thing would still brake'. Horner would not comment on that remark.
Max balks at the argument between his father and his team boss and says it could have been avoided. That he is not distracted by all the hassle within his team should be clear: Verstappen not only won the sprint race convincingly, he was also four tenths faster than the rest of the field in qualifying. "The more fuss, the faster Max drives. It was the same in the past," Jos told De Telegraaf with a wink .
Helmut Marko hopes Verstappen and Horner can now put the disagreement behind them. "Let's forget that stupid story now," says Red Bull's top adviser. "Max has made the difference again here. This is a huge boost for the team."
