Aston Martin are having a somewhat mixed season in 2024 for now. Unlike last year, the British racing stable are unable to challenge at the top. Nevertheless, the Silverstone-based team is working hard to return to the top of Formula 1 in the near future. So Aston Martin has appointed a new CEO who knows how to win.

Andy Cowell will assume the role of Aston Martin CEO in the near future. The Briton was head of Mercedes' engine department for a long time, helping to win no fewer than eight constructors' titles. Cowell left the team in 2021. The engineer has been active in the top class of motorsport since 2000.

Lawrence Stroll happy with Cowell appointment

Aston Martin is working hard to re-establish itself at the front, from 2025 they will have an entirely in-house wind tunnel for the first time and from 2026 they will be a customer team of Honda, which will supply the engine. Team owner, Lawrence Stroll, is delighted with Cowell's appointment. "I am delighted to welcome Andy to our team at a crucial time. Together with our works partnership with Honda, the commitment from our title partner Aramco and Andy's leadership we are on track to become a world championship winning team. Andy has my full backing and will have every resource available to win."

Cowell himself is also eagerly looking forward to the new challenge that awaits him. "I am thrilled to join Lawrence's exciting project and look forward to working with the talented group of people that has been assembled. F1 has always been my competitive passion, and I am joining Aston Martin Aramco at an exciting time with the imminent completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition in 2026 to a full works team with our strategic partners Honda and Aramco."
