The fight between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen has caused much controversy in the Formula 1 world. Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing team advisor, has spoke about it in his Speedweek column. The Austrian is particularly unhappy with the FIA's conduct during the race.

"In the end, the FIA found that Max was at fault for the incident. But you have to remember that Lando doesn't let himself be sidelined easily either. In Spain he still pushed Verstappen into the grass, then there was hardly any outrage and no sanctions were taken either," Marko argues.

Lando Norris received a penalty in the closing stages of his race for repeatedly exceeding the track limits. According to Marko, the race organisers should have acted earlier, which he believes could have prevented the incident. "I would have liked the stewards to have handed out the track limits penalty earlier, then it would never have come to this escalation. With all the resources at the race management's disposal, they should have decided earlier."

What could Red Bull have done to prevent the incident

But Marko acknowledges that Red Bull might have been able to do a few things itself. "We could also have told him that Lando had a penalty and then Max should have let him go. Because in my opinion Norris could not have driven five seconds away, But that simply does not fit into Verstappen's DNA."

In the end, Verstappen received a ten-second penalty for his touché with Norris, much to Marko's displeasure. "That ten-second penalty was incomprehensible to me because Norris was over the line several times before that. It is no coincidence that he got a penalty for track limits."
