Sainz has clear demands for Ferrari: 'Need to improve this for Silverstone'
Carlos Sainz has identified clear areas of improvement for the British Grand Prix as the Spanish driver confirms Ferrari are "pushing flat out" to bring an upgrade package to Silverstone. Ferrari have recently dropped behind McLaren and Mercedes in terms of performance despite a podium in the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend.
Ferrari have maintained second place in the Constructors' Championship but have lost ground since Charles Leclerc's victory at the Monaco Grand Prix. McLaren are now within 23 points. Meanwhile, Red Bull Racing have extended their lead by 40 points following Monaco. This is despite Sergio Perez only scoring 15 points since Miami.
Will Ferrari have upgrades at Silverstone?
With McLaren now knocking on the door and Mercedes getting regular podium results, Ferrari are now feeling the pressure. Sainz has made his areas of improvement clear to the Ferrari team.
"I see the factory pushing flat out to understand the troubles that we've hit in the last couple of weekends and trying to bring already for Silverstone a package that allows us to perform a bit better in the high-speed corners because it's clearly been our weakness," Sainz told reporters after the Austrian Grand Prix before acknowledging the advantage of his rivals through the high-speed corners.
"Max was so much quicker through there, but not only Max, also Mercedes and McLaren were a clear step ahead of us in those type of corners. We know Silverstone is the king of the high speed, so we need to do a step. Obviously, we want to be competitive there," Sainz vowed.
