Verstappen is backed by Hülkenberg after incident in Austria

Nico Hülkenberg is yet another driver who has spoken out about the incident between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris in the last race at the Red Bull Ring. The two drivers, known to be good friends, drove into each other causing both to suffer a puncture. Meanwhile, Verstappen has received a lot of criticism, but the Hülk describes this as real racing.

"No, it was racing for me," Hülkenberg told press including GPblog at Silverstone. "There was almost no contact. I don't think you can have less contact and it seemed really bad how they hit each other and both rims broke. But normally you get away with that kind of contact, so I thought it was quite dramatic about it. But for me it was real racing."

Hülkenberg thinks stewards interfere too much

The 10-second penalty given to Verstappen after the incident goes too far for Hülkenberg. "To be honest, Max didn't do much. He drove more or less in a straight line. We have to leave a car width and I think it was there and there was still a kerb on the left. I think the stewards interfered quite a bit last weekend. It's a personal opinion, personal views," said the German.

Next weekend, the British Grand Prix is on the programme. With many British fans in attendance and the McLaren's speed in recent races, fireworks are once again expected between Verstappen and Norris.
