Has Norris' mindset changed? 'Fighting for victory now'

Lando Norris has been able to compete for wins for a few races now. For a long time this was not possible because Max Verstappen's Red Bull was simply too fast, but things have become more exciting since the Miami Grand Prix. So the Briton was asked on the Thursday before the race weekend at Silverstone if that has changed his mindset.

For years, Norris had to make do with the occasional podium finish, which he more often failed to grab than he did. Last year, McLaren took a step forward in development, with the team hoping to take advantage of a lesser weekend from Red Bull for once. This did not happen in that season and even at the start of the current season it looked like it would be a tough task to beat Verstappen and Red Bull.

Yet there came a turning point in the season. McLaren took many new parts to Miami, which immediately resulted in a win after a lucky safety car. In every weekend that followed, Norris was able to put pressure on Verstappen.

Has Norris' mentality changed?

Last year, Norris led four laps at Silverstone. That was very special then, but this year it seems more likely to happen in advance. Norris therefore stated that his mentality has changed a little bit, but here he did add a comment: "Slightly. We're fighting for a win this year. I don't think we were fighting for a win last year. A little bit, probably not that much. A bit more confident, but it's the same thing. I try as quick as I can and I try and win. But now we have a much better chance, so I think that's the main thing. But really, not too many differences."
