After Sergio Perez, Max Verstappen also went through the gravel in Q1. For the Dutchman, however, this did not mean the end of his qualifying.
During qualifying, several drivers switched from intermediates to softs. Perez struggled at Copse, after which he did not get his car steered and he spun. The Red Bull Racing driver ended up in the gravel, from which he could not get out.
Verstappen through gravel at Copse
This was followed by a red flag, after which Verstappen immediately went outside. This was because the rain was coming, so it was important that the drivers set their times on an [almost] dry track. When it actually started to rain, Verstappen went off track in Copse.
The trip through the gravel caused floor damaged for Verstappen. The Dutchman went hard through the gravel, but he was still able to continue his way as normal. He did see bouncing up and down, which may have caused damage to his floor. In the end, he later set a time that was good enough to advance to Q2.
