Just like this time last year, Sergio Perez seems to be in a downward spiral. Despite the Mexican's contract extension, performance remains lacking. Qualifying at Silverstone was again dramatic. GPblog 's statement on Saturday is, therefore: 'Perez should be replaced at Red Bull immediately'.

For weeks in a row, Sergio Perez has failed to set a good qualifying position. During the race, he often manages to make up some places, but because he has to start from far away, he scores little points. During free practice at Silverstone, the Mexican was in good shape, but when he needed to perform, he failed.

Perez underperforms too often

Perez's constant underperformance means Max Verstappen has to carry the constructors' championship on his own. Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari all have two drivers scoring points, but Red Bull does not. At first, the Austrian racing stable could still afford this, but now that the competition has closed up, it cannot.

Besides, there are a lot of young drivers hoping for the coveted seat at Red Bull where they can constantly fight for wins. One of the names at the front of the list to count as a replacement is Liam Lawson. The New Zealander has already proven himself during his fill-in for Daniel Ricciardo in 2023.

Therefore, Saturday's GPblog statement is: 'Perez should be replaced at Red Bull immediately'. Let us know in the poll whether you agree with the statement and leave your opinion in the comments.
