Lewis Hamilton went through a good qualifying session for the British Grand Prix. Although he was ahead of his teammate, the seven-time world champion does start from P2 on the grid on Sunday. Speaking after the session, Hamilton expressed his excitement, and gave his verdict on what he expects will happen.

Hamilton was lyrical after qualifying, in which he put his car in second place. He was particularly appreciative of the team performance Mercedes had delivered. "It was a great session, probably the best session that we've had as a team to just have the real pace and be able to actually compete with the McLarens and the Red Bulls. A huge congratulations to George [Russell] for getting the pole but to be on the front row I think is massive for our team."

Hamilton positive ahead of Grand Prix

The second starting place offers perspective ahead of the Grand Prix. Hamilton says he took extra account of the conditions during the race when deciding on the set-up and therefore expects a good performance on Sunday. "Well I think I was cautious with my setup, more thinking about having a nice balance in the race rather than all for one particular lap so I do think that the car will be good tomorrow."
