Lewis Hamilton became the sixth different winner this Formula 1 season, as he won Sunday's British Grand Prix at home in Silverstone. This is the first time the Mercedes driver has won a race since 2021. The British media has praised the seven-time world champion for his performance, after he also broke the record for the most wins at a single circuit with this being his ninth at Silverstone

The Daily Mail

The British tabloid was thrilled by Hamilton's performance, stating that "Lewis Hamilton is the King of Silverstone again!" Hamilton fought against Max Verstappen and Lando Norris to take the title home for a record-breaking ninth time. The tabloid praised the Mercedes driver for his skills, and his return to his winning ways: "Redemptive solace on the stage he has commanded like no other. Echoes of the past resounded. It was here 16 years ago that he unfurled one of the all-time great drives in blanket wet conditions."

"A final and more important throwback was delivered by the quality of Hamilton’s driving. He may be in the autumn of his career at 39, but still has the capability to get the job done when presented with the opportunity. He is not finished yet, not least with Mercedes finally finding the keys to his car.(What Ferrari will give to work with is another question.)"

Sky Sports

The broadcaster reflected on Hamilton being able to hold off Verstappen, who finished P2 in Sunday's race. "Hamilton held off a late charge from world championship leader Max Verstappen to hang on for victory at his home race after the Red Bull driver had overtaken McLaren's Lando Norris in the closing stages after a chaotic rain-interrupted contest."

It also applauded the record-breaking drive, in which Hamilton broke a series of records, "The record-extending 104th grand prix victory of Hamilton's career saw him become the first Formula 1 driver to win the same race nine times, extending a record he had previously shared with Michael Schumacher. He also extended a record run for podiums at the same race to 12."

BBC

The BBC branded Hamilton's win as a "comeback" after the seven-time world champion waited 945 days since his last win to triumph again. "In front of a crowd of 164,000 people cheering the British drivers - and especially Hamilton - to the rafters despite the inclement weather, the top drivers and three leading teams put on a superb show throughout."

Nevertheless, they were also critical of McLaren, whose decisions led to poor pit stops for their drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, costing them important race positions after both had led the race at one point. "Meanwhile, Norris and Piastri were left to rue some dubious McLaren pit calls - both Norris’ stops were a lap too late, while Piastri was undone by the decision not to double-stack him behind Norris when they changed to inters."

The Mirror

Finally, the British tabloid once again praised Hamilton for his performance, as he sent the crowds "ballistic" at Silverstone. "Lewis Hamilton held off a late charge from Max Verstappen to finally end 945 days of hurt in front of an adoring Silverstone crowd. George Russell started the British Grand Prix on pole and Lando Norris also led his home race for a while. But it was Hamilton who got the job done, even with a Red Bull in his rear view mirrors in the final stages."
