Jeremy Clarkson took some time away from his Diddly Squat farm to attend the British Grand Prix across the weekend. On Sunday, Alpine F1 team shared on their Instagram Clarkson's predictions for the race, and who he expected to win.

Why did Clarkson bet on Hamilton?

Clarkson lives in Chipping Norton, making Alpine his 'home team' as he claims. Ahead of the Grand Prix at Silverstone, they asked the television presenter and journalist who he expected to win. With Clarkson revealed he had just installed his own weather station, he could see that the rain was on the way. "We're going to have a wet race," he said as he showed the weather map. "So my money is either on Lewis Hamilton, or Fernando Alonso because they're old boys. Old boys do well in the wet."

It seems the Diddly Squat farm owner was correct somewhat in his predictions, as Hamilton did go on to finish the race ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Alonso still managed to secure points for Aston Martin as he finished P8. Nevertheless, it was a poor weekend for Clarkson's 'home team' Alpine, with Esteban Ocon finishing in 16th, and Pierre Gasly did not finish. His car was retired as a result of a suspected gearbox issue.
