Gone are the days when McLaren was overjoyed with just a podium in Formula 1. Team boss Andrea Stella looked disappointed after missing out on victory at the British Grand Prix. The Italian believes there could have been more than P3 for the Woking-based team.

Stella expected more at Silverstone than just third place

Despite McLaren appearing to have perhaps the best car, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen outpaced Lando Norris through better strategies. This led to frustration for Stella. "We need to look at the fact that the team is in a condition to be frustrated today because we are P3 on the podium. With the other driver before, and once again, the team that scored more points. So if we don't start from the positives from the building side, we are going to be the ones that build and destroy, build and destroy and we'll stay always at the same level so this is the responsibility for everyone," Stella revealed.

In doing so, the McLaren team boss also demanded responsibility from his own drivers: "While Lando (Norris) and Oscar (Piastri) don't have responsibility for some of the calls that today, we call missed opportunities, we all, the drivers included, have the responsibility to keep building. When you have days in which you have a missed opportunity, it's the best opportunity to keep building."
