Despite increasing his championship lead at the British Grand Prix, it was another weekend where Max Verstappen and Red Bull were not dominant. However, his ability to find extra pace where others have not all season and earn victories in close battles in the 2024 season has been something that many have praised him for, including former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan.

Jordan comments on this "unbelievable" Verstappen aspect

Verstappen could only muster P4 in qualifying on Saturday, even though damage to his floor hindered his progress. However, in the race, the Dutchman was able to improve and maximise everything out of his Red Bull, as he has done all season when the Austrian team have not been the fastest on the grid. Verstappen battled into P2 and passed both McLarens at Silverstone, and that garnered huge praise from Jordan.

The former team principal of his own team Jordan spoke on his Formula For Success podcast about how Verstappen has the ability to find another gear that other drivers can't in the race, saying, "If we analyse carefully, his car was not good enough in qualifying, qualifying fourth. We know he had that problem with the floor. They did their best to fix it, and it was always going to be a battle in the race. But what is unbelievable about Max Verstappen, when you roll back the last 15 or 20 laps of every race, he comes to the fore, and he is a tough, tough nut to crack."

Verstappen showed that quality again at Silverstone as he battled to second place when the chequered flag dropped, finishing behind the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton in the wet-dry race. But did Verstappen have the pace to catch and pass Hamilton? "Truthfully, I don't think so. I think Lewis had that in hand along with the crowd and the euphoria and everything about the British Grand Prix that Lewis stands for. I don't think Max would have been able to pass him," Jordan concluded.
