Adrian Newey admitted it honestly: He does not read that much what is written about him in the media; the many stories and rumours about where the master designer continues his career. "Amanda, my wife, kind of follows it and gives me a rough update," Newey told Formula One's official website. In any case, he will have heard from her that virtually the entire F1 paddock has praised him to the skies in recent months and just about every team on the grid wants to recruit Newey.

Now the question remains: what will be the next employer of Newey, who is stepping down from Red Bull Racing? Or will he call it a day and retire? Again, Newey did not really clarify this. "From the age of 10 or 11, I always wanted to be a designer in motor racing, and I’ve managed to achieve that, so everything else is a bonus really," said the 65-year-old Newey, who was then asked the concrete question of what will be his next project?

"My passion has always been trying to add performance to cars, to race cars, so the rest is, of course, part of it, but it’s not what wakes me up and motivates me," is all Newey wanted to say about his future.

Newey happy with time off

For now, he continues to work on the RB17 project, the presentation of which took place at Goodwood. In early 2025, Newey will then leave Red Bull for good. "At the same time, [I can] also take a bit of holiday time. I’ve been kind of in the business pretty much non-stop for a long time now, so having a little bit of a break is nice!"
