Eddie Jordan slams 'unacceptable' performances by Sergio Perez
Former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan has hammered the current form of Sergio Perez. The Irishman, who was team principal throughout the Jordan team's whole existence from 1991 to 2005, believes that the Mexican's performances are 'unacceptable'. Formula 1 aficionado Jordan explained how the performances of Sergio Perez are dragging Red Bull down on his Formula for Success podcast.
Senior figures at Red Bull haven't put their full confidence in Sergio Perez. The Red Bull driver, who has won five races with the Austrian team so far in his four-year stint, is once again under pressure. Perez has scored just 11 points in the last five races and is slipping down the leaderboard in the driver's championship. Perez now sits in sixth place at the halfway point of the season, a staggering 137 points behind his teammate Max Verstappen.
Perez has lost his 'mojo'
"We know what a great driver he was usually in the wet or when tyre situations came in, but that's all eliminated itself out of the situation," Jordan began. "The clear path that he has on street circuits, he doesn't have anymore. He's lost his mojo. Since he has renewed the contract I see a distinct lack of performance, and I have to ask the question why is that? What has happened, because it should be quite the reverse," Jordan explained.
Performances of Perez are 'unacceptable'
"You get a new contract and you say wow, let me make the maximum out of this, let me win some races, let me fight for the championship, just like Nico Rosberg did with Lewis Hamilton. For heaven's sake, he's got the same car as Max Verstappen but only last week he was a second a lap of the qualifying of his teammate, that's unacceptable," concluded the Irishman. Perez will be looking to improve after a difficult string of races in Hungary this weekend.
