Lando Norris topped the timesheets in FP2 at the Hungarian Grand Prix with a 1.17.788 as Charles Leclerc crashed out of the session. The Brit was followed by Max Verstappen, who finished second in FP1 too, and Carlos Sainz, who led the way in FP1.

As FP2 happened:

Like FP1 earlier in the day, it was hot and clear for the second practice session of the weekend. Nico Hulkenberg was the first car out onto the track on the medium tyres. The German was joined on track shortly after by the majority of the field, who were all utilising sets of medium tyres. Just the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were using hard tyres. Reining world champion Max Verstappen complained to his Red Bull team that his 'brakes are not working'. After 15 minutes, the Dutchman sat in second place behind his teammate, Sergio Perez, who is in dire need of a good result this weekend.

Just a few minutes later, Charles Leclerc crashed his Ferrari SF-24 at turn four. The Monegasque lost the rear going over the curb and slammed backwards into the wall. He clambered out of the car unhurt but will be extremely disappointed to have cut crucial running short. Ferrari will be working hard to fix his car for Saturday. After a red flag delay due to the incident clean-up, drivers were keen to get back on track. many took to the Hungaroring on soft tyres. Shortly after green flag running resumed, Zhou Guanyu had a dramatic spin in the same place where Leclerc had crashed just minutes earlier. The Sauber driver spun off and blamed Sergio Perez for getting in his way. Zhou was able to continue the session without damage.

Lando Norris set a 1.17.788 on softs, before gathering some data on the hard tyres. His time was good enough for first place, but returned to the track on softs for the final few minutes of Friday running. His teammate Oscar Piastri finished in 14th. Norris will be hoping to top the standings in qualifying tomorrow.
