Aston Martin's technical director opens door for Newey: 'a great asset'
- Nicole Mulder
Aston Martin is busy building a rock-solid technical team to work at its brand-new technology campus at Silverstone. A number of familiar faces are transferring from other teams, but of the most talked-about name, his future is not yet clear: Adrian Newey. Dan Fallows, himself a former head of aerodynamics at Red Bull Racing, is at least keeping the door open for his former colleague.
In a relatively short time, owner Lawrence Stroll has added a number of technical leaders to his team. These included former Renault employee Bob Bell coming to the team and recently it was also announced that Andy Cowell and Enrico Cardile are joining the team. Cowell headed Mercedes' engine department (HPP), while Cardile left as chassis technical director at Ferrari with immediate effect.
Former Red Bull chief Fallows sees Aston Martin grow
The restructuring began with Dan Fallows, former head of aerodynamics at Red Bull Racing. The Briton joined Aston Martin as technical director in 2022. "The thing for us, is we're a team that's grown incredibly quickly and we're carrying on growing. We can identify as we get into a state which is closer to being able to challenge for race wins and championships. We can start to see as we're on that journey that there are gaps in our expertise or where certain people could bring something to us, he said in the team's press conference at the Hungaroring.
"With the announcements of Andy Cowell recently and Enrico Cardile, these are people with a huge amount of experience. The fact that we're able to attract talent like that to the team just I think it's a testament to just what an exciting project it is and they can really see something and the potential in it," he adds.
Aston Martin opens the door for Newey's arrival
Aston Martin has been mentioned as one of the possible Formula 1 teams Newey could go to after leaving Red Bull. Is there still room at Silverstone for his former colleague? "I've worked with Adrian for a long time as is my colleague next to me," says Fallows, pointing to Pierre Waché. "He is a great asset to any team. Who knows where he ends up." Fallows concludes cryptically.
