Tsunoda gets away well after crash in qualifying

Pierre Gasly will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from the pit lane. Alpine has opted to replace parts on its car. Yuki Tsunoda will just start from the grid after the Japanese driver collided hard with the wall in qualifying.

For Pierre Gasly, it was a qualifying session to quickly forget anyway. The Frenchman did not get beyond twentieth and thus last place in the rankings with his Alpine. Esteban Ocon did not do much better, coming to a nineteenth time. Alpine has now opted to start Gasly with a new Energy Store and Control Electronics. These two new engine parts mean Gasly will have to start from the pit lane.

Where will Gasly and Tsunoda start the Grand Prix?

Alpine reveals that it chose this in order to add extra parts to the available engine parts. Considering Gasly had to start last anyway, the pain of this penalty is now minimal.

Yuki Tsunoda on the other hand starts the race from his tenth starting spot. The Japanese driver collided hard with the wall in Q3, but the team was able to repair the car without incurring a penalty in the process. As a result, Tsunoda will start the race from P10, right behind teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
