Lando Norris reacts to controversial Hungarian Grand Prix ending
21 July at 16:03

Although Lando Norris led the closing stages of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Brit finished in second place after letting teammate Oscar Piastri pass. Polesitter Norris was five seconds ahead of his teammate when he backed off down the main straight with just a few laps to go.

"An amazing day for us as a team, I think that's the main thing, honestly. I'm so happy, it's been a long journey to get to achieving this on merit, and that's exactly what we did today, and I think a long way clear of the rest, so we did it in style as well. Oscar had a good start, he got me off the line and he controlled the way as well. He was coming at some point and he deserved it today," Norris said immediately after climbing out of his MCL38.

'The team asked me, so I did it'

When asked by 2016 F1 champion Nico Rosberg, who was conducting the post-race interviews, about the controversial decision, Norris simply said "The team asked me to do it, so I did it and that's it."

Norris still believes the constructors championship can be won by McLaren, too. "For sure I mean definitely as a constructor, two good drivers and an amazing team so I absolutely think so, still difficult, and still a long way to go and today was our day, in Spa it can change completely so we'll keep pushing and we'll try to do more of the same." Concluded Norris.
