This is Oscar Piastri's first reaction to his maiden F1 victory in Hungary

it may have looked in doubt at some stages, but Oscar Piastri came through to take a maiden victory in Formula 1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix. After taking the lead from teammate Lando Norris on the first lap, Piastri drove a near-perfect race. However, after Norris undercut the Australian, he took the lead and started to increase the gap between the two of them, despite team orders coming from McLaren. However, with theee laps left, Norris let Piastri through to take victory at the Hungaroring.

Piastri hails "special" win despite a "complicated" ending

Norris looked set to hold onto victory after taking P1 during the second round of stops, and the gap continued to increase between him and Piastri. But in the end, the Brit let Piastri through and gave the win to the Australian after being hounded on the team radio for many laps.

Speaking to Nico Rosberg in the drivers interviews after the race, Piastri said: "Very special. Something I dreamt of as a kid. A bit complicated at the end. I put myself in the right position at the start, and thanks to the team for an amazing effort and an amazing car. I can't thank McLaren enough. To have a win 18 months in is an incredible feeling. I hope it's the first of many. Still have things to work on, but I'll enjoy the win.

"The car is a beast," continued the Australian, highlighting the speed of the McLaren in Budapest this weekend. "It's fast in every condition. We had it under control completely today. Amazing to manage the race like that to secure a one-two. Incredibly happy for the whole team."

But of course, Piastri then commented on the team orders that gave him his first race win, the orders that Norris almost ignored: "The longer you leave it, the more you get nervous. But it was well executed by the team. It was the right thing. I put myself in the right position at the start. Yes, my pace probably wasn't as quick as I would've liked in the last stint but was still in the right position to make it happen. Well executed."
