Hamilton calls 'hair raising' collision with Verstappen a 'racing incident'

Lewis Hamilton finished the Hungarian Grand Prix in third place but had to defend the spot firmly when Max Verstappen came looking for it. A collision between the two took place, but the seven-time world champion Briton dismissed it as a racing incident.

"Huge congratulations to McLaren on the one-two. My old, original family so happy to see them up front," Hamilton began after the race. "Mercedes did a great job to continue pushing. We didn't have the pace of McLaren's or Red Bulls but we held on at the start of the race."

Hamilton got involved in a heated duel with his old rival Max Verstappen in the closing stages, which launched Verstappen in the process, who lost a place to Charles Leclerc. Both drivers were able to continue on their way. "The close battle at the end was a bit hair-raising, but that's motor racing. It's not nerve-wracking.

"When you see the pace they close the gap in some corners, you just laugh because it's not something I can do. Particularly in the last sector, they were very strong. I saw him coming from a long way back and he braked later. He sent it up in the inside, and I stayed still. A racing incident I think." Hamilton concluded.
